Kaspersky speaks in favor of state regulation in Internet of Things

MOSCOW, Jul 6 (PRIME) -- The Internet of Things (IoT) industry should be regulated by the government to avoid cyber incidents, Yevgeny Kaspersky, chief of Russian antivirus software maker Kaspersky Lab, said on Friday at the International Cybersecurity Congress, held by Sberbank, the country’s biggest bank.

“The less the company spends on security, which makes the IoT, the faster it enters the market and the less its devices will cost. The lower the costs are, the closer the victory is. I have only one answer how to fight it: state regulation. The government should say that there are standards to sell the IoT on this territory,” Kaspersky said.

“It’s almost like control over pharmaceuticals: it is strictly regulated. The same should be in the IoT industry.”

The IoT comprises devices connected to the Internet and managed through it with the gadgets capable of exchanging data.
